Dylan Maugel

I am honored to be the Faith for Life and Liturgy Director of St. Stephen’s Catholic Community since July 2023.

I previously studied theology at Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, Indiana and the Augustine Institute with a Masters in theology with a concentration in Sacred Scripture. Some of my favorite things to study are liturgy, Mariology, Biblical Greek, and Mystagogy (seeing the mystery of Christ present in the world). Some of my favorite authors for theology and spiritual reading include: Dr. Brant Pitre, Dr. Edward Sri, Dr. John Cavadini, Dr.Scott Hahn, Dr. Mary Healy, Fr. Jacques Philippe, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI (Cardinal Ratzinger), St. Pope John Paul II (Karol Wojtyla), Hans Urs von Balthasar, St. Augustine, Origen, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

Throughout my years of study, I have been involved in family catechesis programs where I helped teach the faith to both parents and children. I also assisted in being a small group leader for youth groups at parishes. In 2021, I was a Totus Tuus Missionary and served 8 parishes across my home diocese and was moved by the Holy Spirit to serve parishes in some capacity.

I am the middle of three boys in his family and was born in Fort Wayne, IN. Although he recently came from Denver, CO, where I attended graduate school. I am  a Midwestern at heart having been born and raised in Indiana for 23 years. I never lived outside of Northern Indiana until I attended  the Augustine Institute. A fun fact is that all my family  names  start with the letter “D”: Dylan, Devyn (older brother), Dawson (younger brother), David (father), and Dawn (mother).

For recreation, I enjoy watching sports (especially college football and basketball), reading or translating the Bible from Greek to English, playing sports, singing (especially any liturgical music composed by Palestrina), making campfires and camping, and sharing testimonies of how God’s grace has worked in  my life.
